My son, PVT Roy Childers recently graduated from Army boot camp on August 13th out of Fort Jackson and is currently at Fort Benning to compete his AIT training. Roy has wanted to fly combat helicopters since he was in the fifth grade and I am so proud he stayed the course through his school years and is now on the path to obtain the goal of his dreams. He once asked me, Mom, you know that if I end up flying combat helicopters, I might die? I got a little choked up but told him, I will support his choice to service our country because it’s what he wants and because it’s a good and honorable decision. And that I couldn’t be more proud of him. I have always thought that those who serve have a little something extra that others don’t have. To all those who have served, are serving and will someday serve, Thank you for all you have done and will do.
P.S. I recently brought up Red Shirt Fridays to the site manager at my place of employment in hopes that we can begin a red shirt Friday movement there.
